And, I am sooooo excited about it! My friends recommended the Stitch and Bitch knitters’ handbook. SERIOUSLY great book if you are wanting to learn yourself. Very easy to follow directions, sense of humor sprinkled in generously (perfect for me) and diagram pictures. I am a visual girl so just making my hands do exactly what I saw in the picture was key.
Since I was a little girl I have wanted to knit like my Gram. She made my sisters and I oodles of Barbie clothes, booties, sweaters and even matching items for us. I can honestly say now, WOW Gram ! The detail she put into these things takes a $hit ton of work and time! I knew it was something, but not like this. She really enjoys it which makes it that much better but now that I am learning, I can see the detail and time she took to make each item for us and it makes those things even more special. I wish I had cared more then. I am finding this often as I grow older. A more in depth understanding of all things. I can see why older folks think youth is wasted on the young.
But then again, if you had the knowledge then you have now, you may never have taken the risks you took, which made you who you are. Right? And so I begin with the ramblingI am always finding more pieces to the puzzle of life and trying to assemble them into the ultimate bigger picture. As for knitting, I can’t wait for every little extra 10 minutes I get alone to learn another step in the process. I am inspired to become more like my Gram and hopefully carry on her traditions in our family. Here are a few knits of my time and my inspiration herself.
In my favorite Cookie Monster sweater courtesy of Gram
Me with Gram as a baby and as a 12 year old
Stockings hung with care,(some on the floor after being packed to the max-LOL) Each one she personalized with Name, year of birth and a fun pattern-these are my favorite Christmas tradition, I keep my sister Elise's (on top) hung with all of ours in her rememberance during the holidays.
Hats and sweaters for my precious babies
Last but not least, this is not knitted. (Obviously)
My wedding dress was B-E-A-U tiful. Again made by my Gram I couldnt think of a better dress being in a store, I knew my Gram could make the most perfect dress just for me and she did.
